The app allows parents to keep their children's artwork without quantity limitation.
And for children, it will bring back childhood memories when they will grow up.
Also, the app will reveal information on the child's development according to
the drawings and will give tips to improve drawing, encouraging the parents
to upload more data.
MY ROLE IN THIS PROJECT
The project was created during my UX studies at “Create” school.
UX/UI design, Visual Design and Research
INTRODUCTION
Children's artworks. Many parents don’t know much about the strong relationship between their child's drawings and development. Drawing is important tool for children to express themselves. Every line or circle may be fascinating, and therefore in the early ages, drawing and work of art in general are main part of child's daily activities
PROBLEM STATEMENT
A large amount of drawings and other artworks sent from kindergarten almost every day is overwhelming for most parents, not knowing what to do with all the masterpieces.
MARKET RESEARCH
The first step was to search for similar apps and several were found. These are my conclusions about some of the challenges addressed in those apps.
How to get users to start and upload their kid's artworks?
-
Presentation of value at "Onboarding" Stage.
-
In-app feature enabling the user to add information to photos.
-
Creating social network of close friends. In-app social share and sharing via e-mail.
How do we make users come back and keep on uploading artworks?
-
Use of conventions for taking photos and editing inside the app. Creating list of features that users expect in such kind of app.
-
High upload rate of pictures and movies. User will not tolerate low upload rate, which can cause frustration and abandonment of app.
-
Upload artworks without quantity limit. a solution is required to allow free unlimited storage of artworks. If there is limit, to create easy operation to avoid user frustration.
How do we create a simple process of saving artworks?
-
Dividing the task to several small tasks. The documentation process needs to be performed step by step using convention and minimum effort.
Research in apps from other fields. These are my conclusions about some of the challenges addressed in those apps.
How do we create a good viewing experience?
-
Using Timeline to present artworks will allow the user to go through journeys following the child's artworks and it's the development by time.
-
The minimalist approach supported by a clear grid to provide for maximum scan ability of relevant information.
How do we make users come back and keep on uploading artworks?
-
Information tips on connection between children development and their artworks based on children's age and a type of drawing will be reliable, clear and friendly.
How do we create a simple process of saving artworks?
-
Some prepared questions will make it easier for the user to fill in data about the artwork.
USER RESEARCH
The second step was to perform user research. Several parents were interviewed to ensure the problem statement. The questionnaire was developed and was filled up by 54 parents and Sharing Group. These are my conclusions about some of the challenges addressed in those apps.
Parents
How to get users to start and upload their kid's artworks?
-
Providing a sense of confidence: The "Treasure" will be kept the best way. Parents save drawings due to sentimental value of saving the moment. Storing in popular cloud app (e.g. Dropbox) will encourage their confidence.
How do we make users come back and keep on uploading artworks?
-
Creating a simple interface. As an action that parents will be repeating several times a day, the whole process of artwork documentation must be kept as brief and easy as possible.
-
Providing a relevant information and tips about the child development through art and drawing according to the child's age. The right timing to bring up such information can improve user engagement.
-
Easy, fast and simple sharing providing enjoyable user experience. Users can upload several artworks in short time.
How do we create a simple process of saving artworks?
-
App should include the option for audio, video or text description of the work.
-
Date will be added automatically when uploading the artwork creating timeline of child's age and creative development.
How do we create a good viewing experience?
-
Creating a virtual experience close to "hanging pictures on the wall".
Sharing Group
How do we make users come back and keep on uploading artworks?
-
Simple process to add relatives and friends to the group. Some elder group members such as grandparents can find it difficult to join the sharing group. This might cause a high abandonment rate.
-
Well- thought interactions and pleasant visuals
